WHO WE ARE

Chartered by Congress in 1919, The American Legion was founded as a patriotic, mutual-help, Veterans organization. We are a community-service organization which now numbers over 105,000 members in Illinois, in over 800 local Posts. These Posts are organized into Divisions, Districts and Counties. Each Division, District and County has officers who provide leadership in their respective areas.

Each year we conduct numerous programs of interest and benefit to Veterans, their families and communities. Programs such as Premier Boys State, Girls State, Youth Police School, American Legion Baseball, High School Oratorical Contests, Boy Scouts,  Blind Vets Dinner, Toys for Tots, Gifts to the Yanks and more.

Various scholarships are offered through one of more of our programs. This is only a sampling of the many excellent programs of the American Legion Post 1941.

PREAMBLE OF THE NATIONAL CONSTITUTION OF THE AMERICAN LEGION

To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America
To maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a one hundred percent Americanism
To preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all Wars
To inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the Community, State, and Nation
To combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses
To make right the Master of Might
To promote peace and good will on Earth
To safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of Justice, Freedom, and Democracy
To consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness
